SWEET JESUS!!! So here’s Mariah Carey’s video for Beautiful (ft Miguel & wind machine) Where to begin??! This is an eye popper people. God love her, she’s so OTT and so absurdly camp that it actually works.
The clip is basically her riding (and I mean RIDING, like, she is really goin to town on this) on the back of Miguel’s motorbike, in a black (leather?) outfit that barely covers anything.
Then we move to a barn that’s filled with chandeliers (of course) and she dances and giggles like a Teletubbie in a tiny yellow neglige (THAT SHE LIFTS UP QUITE A FEW TIMES. A HUGE THANK YOU FOR WEARING KNICKERS MC!!) as Miguel oggles her from a red sports car.
In short, it’s everything you’d expect from her, and so much more. I’m kind of speechless.
It’s roller disco time y’all with Little Boots serving up a fabulously camp clip for Broken Record. Between this and that Chvrches clip from a few weeks ago, my skates and I are more than ready to start attending gigs held at roller rinks.
ONLY THREE WEEKS TIL EUROVISION!!!!!!
STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING IMMEDIATELY!!!! There is now a front runner for my favourite video of 2013!!! BIG call I know, BUT it combines not only the brilliant music of Foxes, (if you’re unfamiliar, and like Marina And The Diamonds, then get on board stat) but two of my ultimate long time favourite things: Drop Dead Fred and the Miss Universe Pageant.
I realise these two could only be related by the mere fact that they fall under the umbrella of “pop culture” but they’ve been paired together for this clip for Foxes’ new song Beauty Queen, along with footage of Disney princesses, fashion show mishaps, and a bit of Audrey Hepburn, making this a most wonderfully camp experience. I’m in heaven basically.
It’s never too soon to start talking about Eurovision. Ever. So let’s kick things off with team Finland, or what may well become affectionately and/or officially referred to as Team Ding Dong.
Heading to Malmö in May will be the fabulously camp Krista Siegfrids with her poptastic song, Marry Me. The video has been directed by the brilliant, highly respected and acclaimed indie film director Elias Koskimies (if you’ve yet to see his extraordinary and confronting short music film, I’ve Only Just Begun, which addresses the horrific anti gay laws in Russia, head here: http://vimeo.com/47158924 ).
The video for Marry Me is everything you could possibly want: flawless styling and chorey, beautifully filmed, and just a sensational concept all round.
Douze points: Finland.
Helsinki 2014.
I love you internet, SO much. Cast your minds back a few months ago to that simply amazing Madonna v Scissor Sisters mashup with Vogue and Let’s Have A Kiki…..SOMEHOW I failed to realise that an amazing individual whipped up a video clip for it!!!!!! It is the single most brilliantly camp thing you will see for the rest of the year. It’s MARVELLOUS!!!
As I slowly emerge from the blur of Thanksgiving weekend, I am most thankful for one thing, and that is Cher’s new fabulously camptastic song, Woman’s World.
The fabulous Let’s Have A Kiki remix that Robin Skouteris has done for Atlanta Pride now has an extravaganza of a video by Panos T.
Look, I’ll be honest, I do love it, it’s full of retro footage that will make you weep, (I am specifically referring to the blink and you’ll miss it shot of Sarah Jessica Parker from the Girls Just Want To Have Fun final dance off. For the uninitiated, this is the greatest movie of ALL time) BUT, the lovely Videodrome Discotheque still reigns supreme when it comes to Kiki montage brilliance. Aside from the Mrs. Doubtfire shot, there are no drag queens in this clip here. Which is obviously a crime.
There’s clearly room for everyone at the party when it comes to remixes and clips, and you can never have too much camp in your life, but in this particular case, let’s just remain mindful of who did it first…..months ago.
For your Saturday night: Madonna vs Scissor Sisters. Vogue vs Let’s Have A Kiki. Basically, this mash up is everything, and more. Someone whip up an accompanying video clip please.
